Boosting Biofuel Production in U.S. Agriculture

Boosting Biofuel Production in U.S. Agriculture

By Jamie Martin

At the 2025 Winter Policy Conference of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), members cast a crucial vote to revise the organization’s biofuels policy, advocating for increased production of biofuels derived from U.S. agriculture. This move aims to meet both domestic and global energy demands, enhancing the biofuel sector's role in agricultural and economic growth.

“NASDA recognizes the importance biofuels play in the future of agricultural production, energy independence and our economy,” stated NASDA CEO Ted McKinney. This adjustment marks a strategic response to the growing demand for renewable energy sources, such as renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuels, among other emerging energy products.

The updated policy not only supports an increase in biofuel production but also involves NASDA in efforts to dismantle trade barriers, fostering broader international market access for U.S.-produced biofuels. It reaffirms NASDA's endorsement of the Renewable Fuels Standard and supports the year-round sale and use of E15 fuel.

NASDA’s commitment extends to investing in biofuels research and adhering to responsible Clean Air Act emission standards, thereby supporting sustainable agricultural practices and energy production. These efforts underscore NASDA's role in bolstering rural economies through enhanced biofuel production capacities.
