William Heitman Joins Iowa State University as Regional Director

By Andi Anderson

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has appointed William Heitman as the new regional director for Clarke, Decatur, Madison, and Warren counties. He will officially begin his role on March 3, providing leadership for county extension offices and offering guidance to extension councils.

Heitman brings extensive experience in nonprofit leadership and community engagement. Previously, he served as the executive director for the Red Cross Eastern Iowa, where he managed disaster response efforts, coordinated the board of directors, and raised significant funds annually.

He also led fundraising initiatives as the executive director for St. Luke’s Health System in Boise, Idaho. Additionally, he has experience in outreach program management as the president of Junior Achievement in Reno, Nevada, and Dubuque, Iowa.

Andrea Welchans, assistant vice president for ISU Extension and Outreach, welcomed Heitman, recognizing his nonprofit leadership and educational background as valuable assets for the role.

Heitman earned his bachelor’s degree from Luther College in Decorah and has been actively involved in social service initiatives, receiving awards for his achievements in program development.

ISU Extension and Outreach is part of the Cooperative Extension Service, a national network of land-grant institutions in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Every county in Iowa has an elected extension council that collaborates with ISU to support educational programs, ensuring communities have access to valuable agricultural and development resources.
