Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig has announced the 2025 leadership team for the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. The team, comprising experienced advisors and new talent, will work together to address pressing agricultural challenges and support Iowa’s thriving agriculture sector.
Leadership Highlights
The team includes
- Grant Menke, Deputy Secretary: A former Vice President at the Iowa Corn Growers Association, Menke brings expertise in renewable fuels and rural development.
- Colin Tadlock, Chief of Staff: Tadlock joined in 2021 and has extensive legislative and communications experience.
- Haylee Pontier, General Counsel: Pontier joined in 2022 and specializes in consumer protection, food safety, and animal health.
- Keely Coppess, Chief Communications Officer: Coppess rejoined the Department in 2024 with expertise in agriculture communications.
Division Leadership
- Dr. Jeff Kaisand, State Veterinarian: Kaisand leads the Animal Industry Division, elevated in 2024 to strengthen livestock health and welfare.
- Dr. Travis Knight, Director of Consumer Protection and Food Safety: Knight has been with the Department since 2005 and oversees laboratory services.
- Susan Kozak, Director of Soil Conservation and Water Quality: Kozak has led the division since 2019, focusing on environmental stewardship.

Secretary Naig emphasized the team’s mission to strengthen Iowa’s agricultural foundation. “When agriculture thrives, so do our economy and rural communities,” he said. The team’s collective expertise aims to deliver impactful solutions and foster sustainable growth.
