The Pork Pioneers: Discovering the Swine Industry workshop is now open for registration for 4-H members in grades 4-7. This hands-on event will take place on March 21 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Dallmeyer Hall on the Washington County Fairgrounds.
The workshop welcomes participants from Washington, Iowa, Johnson, and Keokuk counties, while 8th-12th graders can join as volunteer group leaders.
Participants will explore various aspects of the swine industry, including swine nutrition, health, biosecurity, pork meat cuts, food safety, and cooking techniques. The workshop is designed to be interactive, with expert-led discussions and engaging activities that provide valuable insights into pork production from farm to fork.
This educational opportunity is open to all experience levels, making it ideal for both new and seasoned 4-H members. The Washington County Pork Producers have generously sponsored the event, making it free for Washington County 4-H participants.
Members from Iowa, Johnson, and Keokuk counties can attend for a $15 fee, payable to their local 4-H office.
The registration deadline is March 10. To secure a spot, visit tinyurl.com/4hPorkPioneers2025.
