The Iowa Government Finance Initiative (IGFI) is organizing two educational webinars in July to help local officials better understand the state’s new property tax law, Senate File 2472. These sessions aim to support informed decision-making and improve financial planning at the local level.
The first webinar, scheduled for July 7, will provide a general overview of the legislation. It will cover key features such as limits on property tax growth, changes in the property tax base, and new rules related to reserve funds. The session will also highlight how these changes can affect local governments and their future financial plans.
The second webinar, taking place on July 15, will focus on specific aspects of the law related to urban renewal and urban revitalization. This session will include practical examples to explain how recent legal updates may influence development projects and community improvement plans. Legal expert Nathan Overberg will provide detailed guidance on how the changes can be applied in real situations.
Both webinars will begin at 10 a.m. and are designed for a wide audience. This includes city and county officials, finance staff, planners, economic development professionals, and community leaders. These individuals play an important role in managing local budgets and guiding development activities.
According to experts, understanding Senate File 2472 is important because it introduces several changes that could affect how communities plan and use their financial resources. By attending the webinars, participants can gain clarity on the law and learn how to adapt to new requirements.
The IGFI continues to support local governments by offering training programs and reliable information. These efforts help communities make better financial decisions using data and proper planning strategies.
