Members of the Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) gathered at the Iowa State Fair on August 21 to celebrate Iowa Corn Day and recognize farmers and families who have made important contributions to Iowa agriculture. The event highlighted the impact of corn growers across the state and their dedication to farming, environmental stewardship, and community involvement.
During Iowa Corn Day, fairgoers had the opportunity to interact with ICGA members through educational activities and a scavenger hunt featuring corn-related trivia. The event helped visitors learn more about the role corn plays in Iowa’s economy, agriculture, and everyday life.
Several farming families and individuals were honored for their achievements. Among them was Will Longinaker, farmer from Fremont and Mills County, who received recognition through the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award. The award, presented through the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers, honors livestock producers who demonstrate excellent care for their animals, the environment, and their local communities.
Another major recognition was the Way We Live Award, sponsored by Iowa Farmer Today and WHO Radio’s The Big Show.
The award celebrates farm families who represent strong agricultural values and dedication to Iowa farming. Tyler and Anna Moeckly, along with Steve and Paula Moeckly, and Jonathan, Jacob, and Nicholas Moeckly, were recognized through Moeckly Farms.
Located near Polk City, the farm has operated since 1854 and continues as an eighth-generation family farm producing corn, soybeans, seed crops, hay, and cattle.
Outstanding environmental stewardship was also recognized through the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award, presented through a partnership involving the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Multiple farm families and producers from counties across Iowa received this honor for their efforts to improve soil health and water quality through voluntary conservation practices.
In addition, the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) sponsored Fergie, a corn-fed steer that participated in the 2026 Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show. Joe Roberts, Iowa Corn Promotion Board President and corn farmer from Wright County, joined Garett Cash, son of Ryan and Shana Cash, in showcasing the steer.
Their entry earned fifth overall steer honors and helped contribute to a record-setting fundraising total of $572,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa.
The recognition of these farmers highlights the strong commitment of Iowa’s agricultural community to leadership, sustainability, family farming, and charitable service. Through their efforts, Iowa farmers continue to strengthen both agriculture and local communities throughout the state.
