Iowa State University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) continues its tradition of excellence, with its agricultural and forestry programs ranked among the top worldwide. The 2024 QS World University Rankings place Iowa State's programs at No. 14 globally among 451 institutions and No. 6 in North America, marking the 11th consecutive year of recognition.

Daniel J. Robison, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, expresses pride in the consistent recognition of the college's programs. He emphasizes the high standards upheld by the college in providing students with quality education and conducting impactful research and extension activities.

The QS World University Rankings consider various factors, including academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations per paper, H-index, and international research network. Iowa State's CALS offers 27 undergraduate majors and 35 graduate programs across 14 departments, with a total enrollment of 4,250 students as of fall 2023.

CALS stands out for its focus on innovation and entrepreneurship, offering numerous experiential learning opportunities through programs like CALS Pathways to Innovation and Leadership. This initiative encourages students to customize their college experience by selecting classes and leadership opportunities aligned with their interests.

Undergraduate research opportunities are integral to the CALS student experience, with initiatives like the Science With Practice program enabling students to work on relevant research projects alongside faculty and staff. Recent projects have addressed topics such as improving heifer care, studying prairie health's impact on bee species, and addressing barriers to outdoor recreation participation.

Iowa State's research and extension enterprises are national and international leaders, securing approximately $60 million in external funding annually over the past five years. This funding enables researchers to address emerging issues affecting Iowa, the nation, and the world effectively.

Carolyn Lawrence-Dill, CALS Associate Dean for Research and Discovery, highlights the increasing quality of research and external funding, reflecting the dedication and excellence of the college's faculty and staff.
