Expanding Behavioral Health Services for Farmers

Expanding Behavioral Health Services for Farmers

By Andi Anderson

Farmers and rural communities are the backbone of America, providing food, fuel, and countless other essential goods. However, they also face unique challenges, including isolation, economic hardship, and mental health concerns. In response to these challenges, Congressman Feenstra has introduced the Farmers First Act, a bipartisan bill that would expand behavioral health resources in rural communities and connect farmers with the care they deserve.

The Farmers First Act would reauthorize the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network (FRSAN), a critical program that provides mental health support to farmers and ranchers. The bill would also increase funding for FRSAN and allow regional centers to establish referral connections with certified community behavioral health clinics, critical access hospitals, and rural health centers.

By expanding access to behavioral health services, the Farmers First Act would help to address the mental health crisis in rural America and ensure that farmers and their families have the support they need to thrive. Congressman Feenstra is committed to fighting for the needs of farmers and rural communities, and the Farmers First Act is an important step in that fight.
