Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host a special webinar series this September titled “Barn of Tomorrow.” The five-week event is aimed at livestock producers, industry professionals, researchers, and anyone interested in the future of livestock farming.
Led by ISU’s Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering team, the series will explore new trends and technologies shaping livestock housing. The focus will be on innovations that enhance sustainability, production efficiency, worker performance, and animal welfare.
“The livestock industry is evolving, and the future of livestock housing is at the forefront of innovation,” said Dan Andersen, associate professor and agricultural engineer with ISU Extension and Outreach. “This series will delve into the latest research and technological developments shaping the next generation of livestock production facilities.”
The sessions will take place every Tuesday at 12 p.m. CST during September 2025. Topics include:
- Sept. 2: Big Data in Livestock Ventilation – presented by Brett Ramirez.
- Sept. 9: Livestock Sensing Technologies – led by Hanwook Chung.
- Sept. 16: Steer Comfort in Barn Designs – with Kris Kohl and Rick Stowell.
- Sept. 23: Camera Tech for Calving and Monitoring – hosted by Tony Mensing and Chris Clark.
- Sept. 30: Winter Prep and Minimum Ventilation – again with Brett Ramirez.
These webinars will showcase how digital tools like big data, sensors, and cameras are helping modern farms become more precise and efficient. The series highlights the benefits of integrating smart technologies in livestock housing for both animals and farm workers.
Participation in the webinars is free, but registration is required. The sessions aim to provide practical knowledge that farmers can apply directly to improve their barns and livestock care.
