Iowa farmers are invited to attend the Fall Field Day at the Iowa State University Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm on Friday, August 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will focus on current crop issues, including southern rust in corn, cover crop strategies, and manure management practices.
Terry Basol, an extension field agronomist at Iowa State, emphasized the value of this event, noting that it helps farmers prepare for important decisions ahead of fall operations.
The field day will begin with a presentation by Ethan Thies, extension conservation field specialist, who will discuss cover crop implementation, species selection, and best practices for effective use.
In the afternoon, Dan Anderson, extension ag engineering specialist, will compare fall vs. spring manure applications, offering guidance on nutrient management to maximize crop health and environmental care.
Following this, Alison Robertson, extension field crops pathologist, will share updates on southern rust and other major corn diseases to monitor during the 2025 season.
A complimentary lunch will be provided at noon, sponsored by Wyffels Hybrids. The event will be held at the Borlaug Learning Center on the Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm, and attendance is free for all.
To help with meal planning, attendees are asked to RSVP by August 25 by emailing neira@iastate.edu.
