Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, in collaboration with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, will hold two-hour workshops for confinement site manure applicators in January and February 2025. These workshops aim to help participants meet certification requirements, renew licenses, and gain valuable manure management knowledge.
Dan Andersen, coordinator of the manure applicator certification program, emphasized the importance of these sessions. “Iowa law requires confinement site manure applicators to attend two hours of education annually during their three-year certification period or pass an exam every three years,” Andersen explained.
Workshops are available at 45 county locations across Iowa, ensuring accessibility for applicators. Additionally, five specialized dry/solid manure applicator workshops will be held in February for commercial or confinement site applicators.
Key Details:
Registration is required; walk-ins are not allowed. Certification forms and fees must be submitted to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Applicators should attend before March 1 to avoid a $12.50 late fee. For those unable to attend workshops, county extension offices offer scheduled training video sessions. Non-scheduled video sessions are available for a $10 fee. Alternatively, applicators can take an exam by contacting their local Department of Natural Resources field office.
An online certification option is also available via the DNR MAC Workday site, where participants can create an account and complete training at their convenience.
These workshops offer a practical way to stay compliant with Iowa’s regulations, enhance manure management practices, and avoid late penalties. Applicators are encouraged to register early to secure their spot. Visit the Iowa Manure Management Action Group website or contact your local ISU Extension and Outreach office for complete schedules and registration information.
