The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is looking for passionate individuals to join its Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production Committee. This committee plays a key role in shaping policy around urban farming and innovative agricultural practices.
Established in 2022, the committee advises the USDA on ways to better support urban agriculture initiatives across the country. Members provide valuable insights on everything from policy development to overcoming barriers faced by urban farmers.
"This is a great opportunity to shape the future of urban agriculture," said Terry Cosby, head of the USDA's Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production. "New members will bring fresh ideas on innovative production, education, and supply chains, helping us create stronger programs for urban farming communities."
The USDA is seeking nominations for four specific positions:
- An innovative urban farmer using advanced technology.
- A representative from a higher education institution or extension program focused on agriculture.
- An expert in the agricultural supply chain, such as a food aggregator or someone experienced in direct-to-consumer marketing.
- An individual with experience in emerging urban, indoor, or alternative agricultural practices.
Anyone interested in being considered for the committee can submit a nomination package. This package should include a background form, a summary of qualifications, a resume, and any relevant publications or letters of support.
The deadline for nominations is July 7, 2024. This is a great chance to get involved in a growing field and contribute to a more sustainable and vibrant food system.
