Nominations are now open for the 2025 Iowa Master Farmer Award, an esteemed recognition initiated by Henry A. Wallace in 1926.
The award honors individuals who epitomize "Good Farming, Clear Thinking, Right Living," reflecting a commitment to agricultural excellence, sound judgment, and community engagement.
Who is Eligible?
- Iowa farmers who derive most of their income from agriculture.
- Profitable farm operation with strong management practices.
- Dedication to land conservation and a commitment to family
- Active involvement in community service and agricultural organizations
- Candidates may be individuals, couples, or siblings, with judging equally weighted among nominees.
- Nominees are welcome to apply again in future years.
The selection committee, comprising Iowa agricultural leaders, past Master Farmers, and agricultural specialists, evaluates nominees based on their farm history, growth, productivity, and community involvement.
While detailed financial information is not required, a comprehensive application with supporting letters is encouraged to provide insights into the nominee's character, reputation, and impact.
Nominations require completion of a nomination form, submission of letters of support, and should be sent to gil.gullickson@farmprogress.com by September 6. Applicants should highlight their farming journey, growth of their operation, and active participation in local, state, and national agricultural organizations.
Community involvement weighs heavily in the selection process, alongside agricultural production skills and dedication to family. Master Farmer winners are celebrated at the Master Farmer Awards Day luncheon, recognizing their lifelong contributions to Iowa agriculture.
