Storm relief - FEMA's Iowa DRCs open

FEMA has launched Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in Shelby, Story, and Union counties in Iowa to offer direct support to those affected by the severe weather events of spring, including storms, tornadoes, and flooding.

Union County Emergency Management located at 705 E. Taylor St., Creston, IA 50801, welcomes residents from 1-7 p.m. on June 13 and 8 a.m.-7 p.m. from June 14-16.

Story County Admin Building at 900 6th St., Nevada, IA 50201, opens from 1-7 p.m. on June 14 and continues from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. through June 15-17.

Shelby County Chamber of Commerce at 1901 Hawkeye Ave., Suite 101, Harlan, IA 51537, will operate from 1-7 p.m. on June 14 and 8 a.m.-7 p.m. from June 15-17. The DRC in Pleasant Hill, Polk County, is closing at 7 p.m. on June 13.

Residents of Adair, Clarke, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Polk, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Shelby, Story, and Union counties with uninsured losses from the severe weather on April 26-27 or May 20-21 may qualify for FEMA assistance.

FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration disaster recovery specialists are available at these centers. They provide information on services, assistance programs, and help with application processes. To speed up service, affected individuals are encouraged to apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, call FEMA at 800-621-FEMA (3362), or use the FEMA app before visiting a DRC.
