Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Story County will host a horse pasture management workshop on September 2, 2025, in Ames, Iowa.
Horse owners are encouraged to attend and learn essential skills for improving their pastures and ensuring long-term productivity.
The workshop will focus on the fundamentals of pasture management, with a practical approach to implementing the concepts discussed.
Participants will cover important topics such as setting goals for pastures, assessing and enhancing current pasture conditions, understanding pasture renovation and establishment, and optimizing grazing management to increase forage supply.
Meaghan Anderson, extension field agronomist with Iowa State, highlighted the importance of this workshop for horse owners.
She explained, "This workshop will provide an excellent opportunity to understand the basics of pasture management, which helps keep pastured horses in good condition and maintain pasture productivity for the long term."
The event will feature expert-led sessions by Shelby Gruss, assistant professor and extension forage specialist, and Nicole Ferwerda, associate professor and equine farm manager at Iowa State.
Their combined expertise will offer attendees valuable insights into the best practices for pasture management, helping them maintain healthy, sustainable environments for their horses.
The program will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the ISU Extension and Outreach Story County Office, located at 1421 S. Bell, Suite 107, Ames.
The cost to register is $20 per person or $30 per couple, which covers workshop materials and refreshments. Registration must be completed by August 26.
