Attorneys and professional tax preparers can get an update on the latest agricultural law and tax changes at this year's Agricultural Law Seminar and Farm Tax Workshop, to be held in person and online Sept. 21-22.
The in-person program will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott, in Ankeny, and the program is also available as a webinar. The agenda for the Agricultural Law Seminar includes a look at what lies ahead for agriculture, rural property and zoning updates, foreign ownership of farmland, legal issues impacting livestock production, a pipeline update, and more. The Farm Tax Workshop will cover the taxation of conservation payments, retiring a farm partner, charitable contribution options for farmers, a legislative and regulatory update, and more.
The seminar is led by the Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation at Iowa State University. Presenters from Iowa State will include Center Director Kristine Tidgren, as well as other Center staff, including Kitt Tovar Jensen, staff attorney, Jennifer Harrington, staff attorney, and Guido van der Hoeven, agricultural tax specialist. Speakers also include attorneys and experts from around the country.
The Agricultural Law Seminar will include one hour of attorney wellness credit, and the Farm Tax Workshop will include one hour of ethics instruction, "Ethics for the Tax Professional."
Those attending the Farm Tax Workshop in person will receive a physical copy of the 2022 Agricultural Tax Issues Workbook. Online participants will receive a PDF in advance of class. They will also receive a physical copy of the workbook in the mail once it arrives from the publisher. The content taught during the Farm Tax Workshop will differ from the agricultural topics covered during the 49th Annual Federal Income Tax Schools.
Register for both seminars by Sept. 13 for $335, or $360 after. Registration for a single seminar is $199 by Sept. 13, and $215 thereafter. The in-person course fee includes lunch and refreshments.
