Northern Research Farm to Hold June Field Day


The Iowa State University Northern Research and Demonstration Farm will host a summer field day on Thursday, June 22, at the north farm, located at 310 S. Main St., Kanawha. This field day is being hosted by the Northern Research Farm, ISU Extension and Outreach and the North Central Iowa Research Association.

The day will begin with comments from Jason Henderson, vice president for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach; and Jay Harmon, associate dean in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and director for Agriculture and Natural Resources with ISU Extension and Outreach.

Matt Schnabel, farm superintendent, will provide a summary of farm activities, and Andy Christensen, vice president of the North Central Iowa Research Association, will provide an update on the capital campaign. Field tours will include the following:

Antonio Mallarino, professor in agronomy and extension specialist at Iowa State, will discuss the recently updated phosphorus and potassium recommendations.

Lee Burras, Morrill Professor in agronomy at Iowa State, will demonstrate soil impacts on crop production via an open soil pit.

Mark Licht, associate professor in agronomy and cropping systems specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, will discuss yields from the long-term tillage trials.

Registration and refreshments will start at 8:30 a.m. and the field day begins at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided. There is no cost to attend and the meeting is open to the public.
