Northeast Research Farm to Hold Field Day Aug. 24



The annual fall field day at the Iowa State University Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm will run from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 24.

Lisa Schulte Moore, Iowa State University professor of natural resource ecology and management, will begin the program by providing her insights on carbon markets in a presentation called "Carbon Science for Carbon Markets: Emerging Opportunities in Iowa."

Erin Hodgson, professor in entomology and extension entomologist at Iowa State, and Ashley Dean, education extension specialist in entomology with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, will discuss corn rootworm and resistance management.

"The goal of the field day is to provide growers and agribusinesses the most up to date information on carbon markets, corn rootworm management and soybean diseases to watch for in 2022," said Terry Basol, field agronomist with ISU Extension and Outreach. "There will also be an update on SDS research, as well as the latest research being conducted on water quality and utilization of cover crops."

Bill Long, field agronomist with Pioneer, will discuss the new technology of stacked traits with RNAi (SmartStax PRO from Bayer and Vorceed Enlist corn from Corteva) for corn rootworm control. Dan Anderson, ag engineering specialist, will give an update on water quality research being conducted, including cover crops and manure trials. Steve Harris, department chair, plant pathology and microbiology and entomology, will discuss the latest on sudden death syndrome in soybeans, treatments, and current soybean disease trends to be aware of for the 2022 growing season.

The field day is free and open to the public. It starts at the Borlaug Learning Center Headquarters on the Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm.

Directions: From Nashua at the junction of Highway 218 (Exit 220) and County Road B60, go west on B60 1.1 miles to Windfall Avenue, then south 1 mile to 290th St., then east 0.2 miles to the farm.
