Lori Duncan - champion of sustainable farming wins

By Jamie Martin

Lori Duncan, an esteemed assistant professor at the University of Tennessee, recently received the Larry W. Turner Young Extension Professional Award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE). This award celebrates Duncan's contributions to sustainable row crop farming and her efforts to improve both environmental and economic outcomes for farmers.

Duncan's work includes developing and promoting advanced sustainable agricultural practices, particularly for U.S. cotton producers. She has been instrumental in advancing precision agriculture technologies, enhancing soil health, and improving sustainable management practices. Her initiatives aim to equip farmers with the knowledge and tools needed to increase profitability while minimizing environmental impacts.

Through her role at the University of Tennessee, Duncan has led numerous research projects. Her significant contributions include the use of the Field to Market Fieldprint Calculator, development of national sustainability programs, and innovative research on soil fertility and cover crops. Her work extends beyond research as she actively disseminates her findings through county agents, field days, and social media, enhancing her impact on the agricultural community.

Duncan's dedication to agricultural engineering and her ability to translate research into practical applications for farming have made her a respected figure in her field. Her recognition by ASABE underscores her vital role in advancing agricultural practices that benefit both farmers and the environment.
