Northeast Iowa Hosts Pasture Management and Weaning Event

Learn Effective Fall Cattle and Pasture Strategies at Lenth Herefords

By Andi Anderson

This October, Northeast Iowa's Lenth Herefords is set to host an informative pasture walk, highlighting advanced pasture and cattle management techniques.

Located at 13690 130th St, Postville, the event promises a practical, firsthand look at successful strategies for fall management of forages and weaning methods tailored to Hereford cattle.

Scheduled for October 9th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., this free event, facilitated by Iowa State University's extension specialists, offers a unique educational opportunity for local farmers and cattlemen.

Attendees will gain insights from Doug and Marilyn Lenth, the farm owners, alongside experts like John Michel, field agronomist, and Denise Schwab, beef specialist. Carolyn Ihde, an extension small ruminant outreach specialist, will also share her expertise.

The session will begin with an overview of farm operations, followed by an engaging tour of the pastures.

During the tour, experts will discuss key topics such as agronomic techniques, grazing patterns, and effective cattle management practices that enhance livestock health and pasture productivity.

Pre-registration is recommended by October 8 to facilitate planning and accommodate all participants comfortably. This also ensures communication in case of any weather-related adjustments.

Interested individuals can register by contacting the Clayton County Extension office at 563-245-1451 or directly reaching out to John Michel at 563-581-7828 or Denise Schwab at 319-472-4739 for more information.

This pasture walk is an excellent chance for agricultural professionals to network, learn, and apply new strategies directly from seasoned experts and peers in the field, enhancing their operations and contributing to sustainable farming practices in Iowa.
