Iowa Learning Farms, in collaboration with the Conservation Learning Group, will be hosting a unique conservation-focused event called “Forestry on Tap” on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Limestone Brewers in Osage.
The event will feature an informal gathering for farmers, landowners, and urban residents interested in discussing and learning about conservation practices that can benefit soil health, water quality, and manage risks related to climate change.
Guests are welcome to arrive early at 5:30 p.m. to enjoy complimentary food, with beverages available for purchase.
The primary goal of “Forestry on Tap” is to create a relaxed and engaging environment where participants can freely talk, ask questions, and learn from each other and from Iowa State University (ISU) experts.
According to Liz Ripley, Iowa Learning Farms’ conservation and cover crop outreach specialist, the event aims to build a sense of community by encouraging discussions on local conservation issues, challenges, and strategies.
“Our intent with this event is to help build community through encouraging farmers, landowners and urban residents to talk about topics important within the community, what keeps them up at night, what challenges they see with conservation practices and what they want to learn more about,” Ripley said.
Unlike a formal conference, “Forestry on Tap” will not have structured presentations or an agenda. Instead, it will be a casual opportunity for local farmers and residents to connect with conservation experts and each other.
The event will feature Iowa State University hosts, including Billy Beck, an ISU Extension and Outreach forestry specialist, and Michelle Soupir, professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering.
The evening will open with a brief talk by a Limestone Brewers team member about the role of water quality in brewing, setting the stage for further discussions on conservation.
