Iowa Agriculture Week is a time to recognize and honor the hardworking farmers and agriculture professionals who help feed and fuel the world. From rural areas to city centres, agriculture connects Iowans through food, fuel, and fibre.
Iowa leads the country in the production of corn, pork, eggs, ethanol, and biodiesel. The state is also a top producer of soybeans, dairy, beef, and turkey. This leadership reflects the dedication of generations of farm families who continue to shape Iowa’s strong agricultural foundation.
In celebration of agriculture, March 27, 2025, was designated as National Women in Agriculture Day to highlight the vital role of over 1.2 million women across the country who contribute to farming and ag industries. Their efforts are essential to agricultural success and innovation.
Preparing the next generation is also a priority. Efforts like the National STEM Week Act, introduced to increase access to science, technology, engineering, and math education, will help students gain skills needed in modern agriculture and related careers.
Iowa’s agriculture advocates continue to support policies that benefit farmers, from promoting homegrown biofuels to protecting farmland from foreign threats and addressing trade challenges. Support also includes providing disaster recovery tools and cutting red tape to ensure timely relief for impacted farming communities.
As foreign animal diseases like avian influenza (HPAI) remain a concern, steps are being taken to help poultry farmers and reduce egg prices. Legislation supporting the Beagle Brigade helps protect U.S. agriculture by detecting pests and diseases at borders.
These ongoing efforts show a deep commitment to ensuring Iowa farmers and producers have what they need to succeed. During Agriculture Week and beyond, Iowans are encouraged to thank the farmers who work every day to support families, communities, and the entire nation.
