Five-day crash course for new ranchers at Texas A&M

By Andi Anderson

The yearly Ranch Management University is back, opening its doors for new ranchers. Organized by the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and multiple collaborating departments, this workshop promises five days of intensive learning.

Participants will dive into varied topics, from soil health to animal care. The program is tailored to give newcomers a deep understanding of different subjects, says Larry Redmon, a key figure from the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences at Texas A&M.

Interested individuals can register online, with a registration fee of $625. The last date to register is oct. 13, 2023.

The workshop is set to kick off at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the G. Rollie White Visitor Center in Texas A&M's premises. Activities will continue from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., culminating on Oct. 27 at noon.

Along with comprehensive learning sessions led by AgriLife Extension experts, attendees will be provided meals, refreshments, and a valuable resource flash drive containing crucial publications on ranch resource management.

The workshop’s agenda includes:

Day 1: Basic soil insights and profitable planning techniques.

Day 2: In-depth discussions on cattle management and U.S. beef industry structures.

Day 3: A glimpse into horse production, forage techniques, and financial aid programs.

Day 4: Harnessing wildlife for agricultural benefits and addressing common challenges.

Day 5: Exploring aquatic vegetation management and wildlife care.

With sessions led by renowned specialists, this event is a golden opportunity for those eager to step into the world of ranching.
