Cheese enthusiasts and aspiring artisans, mark your calendars for March 12! Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, in collaboration with the Iowa State Creamery, is offering a delightful "Home Cheesemaking Workshop" at the Dubuque County extension office.
The three-hour program, scheduled from 12:30-3:30 p.m., promises an immersive experience in the world of cheese making. The workshop covers fundamental aspects such as sanitation, essential equipment and supplies, and provides hands-on guidance in the art of cheesemaking. Participants will have the opportunity to craft their own queso fresco cheese.
Larry Tranel, dairy specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach in northeast Iowa, expressed the simplicity of making cheese locally. Whether utilizing milk from a local dairy or store-bought milk, this workshop is designed for individuals and families eager to explore the culinary science behind cheese production.
Led by Sarah Canova, business administrator for the Iowa State Creamery, the session caters to beginners and enthusiasts alike. With a Master of Business Administration and a bachelor's degree in food science from Iowa State, Canova brings a wealth of knowledge to guide participants through the cheese-making process.
To secure your spot in this limited-participation workshop, be sure to preregister by March 5. The $25 fee covers supplies and lessons. Contact Kimberly Feltes, office manager, at 563-583-6496 or kfeltes@iastate.edu to register. Don't miss out on this opportunity to embark on a cheesy adventure in Dubuque!
