The Iowa State University Digital Ag Innovation Lab, in partnership with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, has launched the inaugural Combine University, a new educational program focused on improving harvest efficiency through practical training and technology-based learning.
Designed for operators, producers, and agricultural professionals, the program aims to help participants gain a deeper understanding of modern harvesting practices and equipment. The initiative follows the successful model of Planter University and focuses on preparing attendees for the technical challenges that arise during harvest season.
Combine University provides expert instruction on a wide range of topics related to harvest operations. Participants will learn about combine operation, yield monitor calibration, sensor technology, grain loss management, machine optimization, and data accuracy. These areas play an important role in improving harvest performance and ensuring reliable information for farm management decisions.
The one-day training program will be offered on August 24, 25, and 26, 2026, at Blomgren Seeds, 1927 250th St., Boone, Iowa 50036. Each session will feature the same curriculum, allowing participants to choose the date that best fits their schedule and availability.
Throughout the program, attendees will gain hands-on experience with modern harvest technology and machinery. Training sessions will cover machine setup and automation, grain loss evaluation, harvest technology systems, yield monitor calibration, and fall systems management. Participants will also learn how machine settings and grain flow can influence both harvesting efficiency and the quality of farm data collected during operations.
A key advantage of the program is its practical learning format. The hands-on approach is designed to benefit participants with varying levels of experience, from those new to advanced harvest technologies to experienced professionals looking to improve their skills and knowledge. By combining classroom instruction with real-world demonstrations, the program offers valuable insights that can be applied directly in the field.
Registration for Combine University is $249 per person. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate upon completion, recognizing their participation and newly acquired knowledge. Interested individuals must complete registration before August 20, 2026.
Through programs like Combine University, the Iowa State University Digital Ag Innovation Lab continues to advance agriculture through innovation, education, and outreach. By connecting producers, students, and industry professionals with emerging technologies and best practices, the program supports the development of a more efficient and data-driven agricultural sector while preparing participants for the future of digital agriculture.
