Beef producers in west central Iowa have an opportunity to improve breeding season success by attending a free nutrition-focused workshop on April 29.
The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Boniface Parish Hall in Westphalia, with a complimentary meal served at 5:30 p.m.
The workshop is a joint effort by the Iowa Beef Center at Iowa State University, ISU Extension and Outreach Shelby County, and Farm Service Cooperative.
It focuses on how proper nutrition can improve reproductive efficiency—one of the largest expenses in beef cattle operations.
Erika-Lundy Woolfolk, an ISU extension beef specialist, is coordinating the program. She says nutrition plays a key role in achieving good calf crop results. The workshop will include classroom sessions and hands-on activities to help producers apply practical nutrition strategies.
The evening features expert presentations on three main topics:
- How nutrition impacts cattle reproduction
- Risk protection options for livestock producers
- Using BRaNDS software to evaluate beef cattle rations
Speakers include Erika-Lundy Woolfolk, Tim Christensen (ISU Extension farm management specialist), Dan Hosch from Zinpro, and Noah Sellner of Nelson Farm Supply.
The workshop is free to attend, and the evening meal is also provided at no cost, thanks to sponsorship from Farm Service Cooperative.
Beef producers interested in attending must RSVP by April 23. To register, call Shelby County Extension at 712-755-3104 or email dlascot@iastate.edu.
This workshop provides a valuable opportunity for cattle producers to prepare for the upcoming breeding season with expert advice and practical tools to help manage nutrition and improve herd outcomes.
