The conference begins with keynote addresses from Dr. Derrell Peel of Oklahoma State University and Dr. Troy Rowan of the University of Tennessee. Dr. Marta Kohmann from the University of Wisconsin will also present on Thursday.

The evening features a “Bull Pen” discussion, where locker plant managers from the Driftless Area will share insights about local beef marketing.

Friday kicks off with a breakfast session on “Challenges and Joys of Family Farm Transitions,” presented by Bruce and Peyton River of Maquoketa. Breakout sessions follow, with two tracks focusing on cow herds and feedlot management.

Highlighted presentations include:

Crossbreeding Techniques: Dr. Troy Rowan explains how balancing old and new technologies can improve productivity.

Cow-Calf Pasture Operations: Dr. Marta Kohmann explores strategies to maximize grazing and forage inventory.

Heifer Reproductive Success: Dr. Dan Shike discusses the role of age and weight in successful breeding.

Shrub Control in Pastures: Dr. Mark Renz presents methods to manage shrubs and enhance forage productivity.

The conference concludes with Dr. Derrell Peel’s talk on the “Cattle Market Outlook: 2025 and Beyond,” providing insights into market trends and factors impacting profitability.
