Amy Hunzelman has been appointed regional director for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, covering Worth, Mitchell, Cerro Gordo, Floyd, and Franklin counties. Starting January 21, 2025, she will provide leadership to county extension staff and guidance to local extension councils.
Hunzelman brings extensive experience in community collaboration and education. Currently the strategic partnerships coordinator for Waterloo Community Schools, she has worked with businesses, nonprofits, and organizations to benefit students and families. Previously, as director of education and special projects at the University of Northern Iowa, she organized events connecting K-12 educators with valuable resources.
Andrea Welchans, assistant vice president for extension and outreach, highlighted Hunzelman’s strengths: “Amy’s expertise in financial resource development, partnership networking, and community outreach is a perfect match for this role. We warmly welcome her to the team.”
Hunzelman earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and her master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Her education and professional background uniquely position her to lead impactful initiatives within Iowa State Extension and Outreach.
ISU Extension and Outreach is part of the national Cooperative Extension Service, a network of over 100 land-grant institutions, including Iowa State University. It collaborates with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to serve communities across the country. Each Iowa county has an elected extension council that determines how best to implement ISU programs locally.
With Hunzelman’s leadership, the organization looks forward to strengthening its educational and community impact in the region. For more information about ISU Extension and Outreach, visit www.extension.iastate.edu.
