Gregg Joins 5th Cohort of Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows
Iowa Ag Connection - 12/07/2018

Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg has been selected to participate in the fifth cohort of the Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows, an initiative of the Hunt Institute founded in 2001 by former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt. The institute is a recognized leader in the movement to transform public education. Gov. Kim Reynolds was a participant in the inaugural cohort of Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows in 2015.

"I am honored to be able to join this expanding network of Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows," Lt. Gov. Gregg said. "I know Gov. Reynolds appreciated the connections she made with leading experts, former governors and other state leaders, and I look forward to a similar positive experience and using what I learn to help Gov. Reynolds improve education policy in our state."

Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows are an elite group of national, senior-level policy leaders who have the knowledge, skill and will to be effective, reform-minded education policymakers at the state level. Named for renowned education governors Jim Hunt (D-NC) and Tom Kean (R-NJ), the national, nonpartisan fellowship launched in 2014. Since that launch, the Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows program has established a network of more than 90 fellows representing 48 states and Washington, D.C.

"There can be little doubt that strong leadership at the state level is vital to ensuring equitable educational opportunities for all students," Hunt Institute President and CEO Dr. Javaid Siddiqi said. "Yet all too often, these leaders find themselves at crucial decision points without the background they need to act decisively. By participating in this program, Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows have a head start in setting their vision for education and acquire a bipartisan network of colleagues and experts to call on in the years ahead."

The Fellows Advisory Board consists of 16 former governors who put education at the center of their agendas, learned from the practical experiences of other governors and utilized gubernatorial leadership as a lever to make systemic changes resulting in improved student achievement.

Governors Hunt and Kean believe education is the most important investment we can make to strengthen our nation's economy and society. They recognize that senior, state-level policymakers have enormous influence over our complex education system and that all too often, these leaders are required to assume massive responsibilities with limited background in education policy.

"Our vision is to provide policymakers with the core knowledge they need to develop and promote effective education agendas," Gov. Hunt said. "By investing in America's policymakers, the Hunt-Kean Leadership Fellows will build a cadre of well-informed and motivated leaders with the necessary influence to reform state education systems and improve outcomes."
