Winners Selected in Gobble Up! Turkey Marketing Contest

The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation and the Iowa Turkey Federation are happy to announce the winners of the 2020 Gobble Up! Turkey Marketing Competition.

The contest was open to Iowa students in grades 3-12. Students created marketing plans, including advertisements, cost analyses, and nutrition information, for specific turkey-centric products. The cross-curricular contest helps teachers meet educational standards while students learn about turkey production and nutrition.

The winners are as follows:

Elementary Division:

1st place: Des Moines Christian School taught by Rhonda Osborn. The student team of Jonah, Chloe, Janay and Amelia submitted a poster titled Banner Turkey Taco.

2nd place: Des Moines Christian School taught by Rhonda Osborn. The student team of Hailey, Allie, Beau and Lincoln submitted a poster titled Turkey Game.

3rd place: Des Moines Christian School taught by Rhonda Osborn. The student team of Garrett, Bennett, Natalie and Evie submitted a poster titled Turkey Carnival.

Middle School Division:

1st place: Waverly-Shell Rock taught by Kristie Kuhse. The student team of Cam Kramer, Addie Kruse, Madyson Mummelthi, and Sam Wilson submitted a project titled BBQ Turkey Sliders.

2nd place: Waverly-Shell Rock taught by Kristie Kuhse. The student team of Lizzie Abben, Rhea Olds, Kylee Reuter and Aubrey Victor submitted a project titled Gobble Gobble Turkey Salad.

3rd place: Waverly-Shell Rock taught by Kristie Kuhse. The student team of Aeryn Quick, Peyton Riggins and Wyatt Myers submitted a project titled Pulled Turkeh.

High School Division:

1st place: Dubuque taught by Jennifer Gravel. The student team of Gage Campbell, Maxwell Enabnit, Marquis Flowers, Tyler Kirk, Rebecca May, William Powers, Madison Sampson Brown, Jack Smith and Joel Wilbricht submitted a project titled Turkey Strips.

2nd place: Lone Tree taught by Bridget Mahoney. The student team of Hunter Hain, Will Hotz, Caden Jondle, Arlie Lorack, Danielle Pettitt, Rita Puga, Ryan Werbach and Shane Zaruba submitted a project titled Eggelicious.

3rd place: Wilton taught by Gary Bruns. The student team of Gage Oien, Joann Martin, Adyson Herrold, Ava Weaver, Robert Martin, Gavin Reid and Emma Hartman submitted a project titled Turkey Platter.

"Iowa is an important turkey producing state," said Morgan Minnehan of the Iowa Turkey Federation. "This contest helps students understand about the industry and how turkey can be a nutritious part of a balanced diet."

Contest submissions were judged by a panel of industry experts, turkey producers, and educators. Prizes include up to $200, a personalized virtual tour (FarmChat) of a turkey farm, and first place classrooms will have a turkey lunch brought to their school sponsored by the Iowa Turkey Federation. The program is funded in part by the Iowa Turkey Marketing Council.
