Naig to Provide China Phase 1 Trade Deal Update
Iowa Ag Connection - 09/14/2020

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig will participate in an upcoming trade webinar hosted by Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). Naig will be joined by U.S. Meat Export Federation CEO Dan Halstrom and U.S. Soybean Export Council CEO Jim Sutter to discuss the China Phase One trade agreement that went into effect in February.

Under the Phase One agreement, China agreed to purchase an additional $12.5 billion in agricultural products in 2020, and an additional $19.5 billion in agricultural products in 2021. The agreement lifted the ban on U.S. poultry products, including pet food, and increased the number of facilities approved to export animal protein, pet food and dairy products. It also included important intellectual property protections. The panelists will discuss the progress being made on agricultural exports and what we can expect heading into the fall harvest.

The discussion takes place Sept. 16 from 9 to 10 a.m.
