The Iowa Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer Conference will be held on January 17-18 at the Community Choice Convention Center in Des Moines, providing young farmers with valuable networking opportunities and industry insights. This annual event draws hundreds of farmers who are eager to learn and connect.
The conference kicks off with six industry tours, offering attendees the chance to explore various agricultural sectors. The keynote speaker, Jack Uldrich, a global futurist and author, will share his thoughts on the power of creativity and the importance of "unlearning" in today’s rapidly changing world. Uldrich emphasizes that adaptability is crucial for navigating challenges. Following the keynote, the conference will feature a comedy hour, yard games, and door prizes, ensuring a fun and engaging atmosphere.
On January 18, more than 20 educational sessions will cover various topics, including direct-to-consumer markets, value-added agriculture, current agricultural markets, and the impact of policies on farming. Additionally, attendees can develop new skills, such as graphic design or canning, enhancing their farming knowledge.
“It’s critical we encourage and nurture young farmers in Iowa to ensure the next generation has the tools to navigate challenges in farming and grow successfully,” said Iowa Farm Bureau President Brent Johnson. “The Iowa Farm Bureau Young Farmer conference is a great place to network, learn the latest ways to grow and enhance your farm and have fun while doing it. I started in our Young Farmer program and still maintain those friendships today.”
During the event, three finalists of the Grow Your Future Award will present their ag-related businesses for a chance to win a $10,000 prize. Additionally, attendees can participate in the Farm Bureau Discussion Meet, where they will engage in a cooperative-style discussion on issues facing family farms. The semi-finalists will have an opportunity to represent Iowa at the American Farm Bureau Convention.
The conference will conclude with a motivational speech from Dr. Rick Rigsby, followed by entertainment from country singer Cody Hicks.
Farmers can register for this members-only event by January 3. For more details or to become a member, visit IowaFarmBureau.com/YFC.
