Webinar Series Guides Beef Producers on Profitable Cattle Marketing

Webinar Series Guides Beef Producers on Profitable Cattle Marketing

By Andi Anderson

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting a free three-part webinar series to help beef producers improve their marketing strategies.

The “Planning for Profitable Cattle Marketing” series will take place at noon on April 8, 9, and 10, providing valuable insights into cost management, quality grading, and risk reduction.

The first session on April 8, led by farm management specialist Tim Christensen, will focus on understanding the true cost of production. Producers will learn how to calculate expenses and identify opportunities to improve profitability.

Managing feed costs and other inputs is essential in today’s high-cost environment.

On April 9, beef field specialist Chris Clark will explain the importance of yield and quality grades in beef marketing. Understanding carcass evaluation and genetic selection helps producers enhance product quality and maximize returns in grid marketing.

The final session on April 10, presented by farm management specialist Joseph Lensing, will cover marketing strategies and risk management.

With record-high cattle prices and production costs, managing financial risks is more crucial than ever. The session will introduce Livestock Risk Protection insurance as a tool for small and medium-sized producers.

Cattle and calves contribute over $5 billion to Iowa’s agricultural economy, making them the fourth-largest commodity in the state. This webinar series provides producers with essential tools to navigate market challenges and improve profitability.

ISU Extension and Outreach continues to support farmers through education and collaboration. This program is funded by the North Central Extension Risk Management Education Center and the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
