The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) has awarded its highest honors to two individuals in recognition of their lifelong commitment to serving American agriculture: Frank Lucas and Craig Hill.
Frank Lucas, a Republican congressman from Oklahoma, has been honored with the Distinguished Service Award. This prestigious accolade acknowledges his more than 40 years of dedicated advocacy for farmers on Capitol Hill. As a fifth-generation farmer himself, Lucas played a pivotal role in shaping the 2014 farm bill and holds the distinction of being the longest-serving member of the House Agriculture Committee.
Craig Hill, former president of the Iowa Farm Bureau, has been presented with the Founders Award. This recognition celebrates his outstanding leadership and substantial contributions to the Farm Bureau organization. During his 32-year tenure, Hill tirelessly advocated for farmers both domestically and internationally. He embarked on trade missions to 23 countries, shared agricultural knowledge with presidents and farmers, and played a crucial role in securing essential protections for farmers, such as the Revenue Assurance program.
Both Lucas and Hill expressed deep humility upon receiving their awards. Lucas likened the honor to receiving praise from family, while Hill acknowledged the countless others who contribute to the success of the Farm Bureau. The pride in their families was evident, with Lucas's farm background and Hill's multi-generational farming operation underscoring the profound roots both men have in agriculture.
AFBF President Zippy Duvall commended both honorees for their unwavering dedication to American agriculture. Their tireless efforts have played a crucial role in ensuring the prosperity and sustainability of family farms nationwide.
This recognition highlights the vital role individuals like Lucas and Hill play in supporting the backbone of American society. Their commitment to promoting sound agricultural policies and advocating for farmers serves as an inspiration to all who recognize the importance of a robust and thriving agricultural sector.
