Thursday, the American Clean Power Association and Power Up Iowa recognized several Iowa counties for their commitment to renewable energy and maintaining the Hawkeye State's leadership in clean power generation.
Power Up Iowa's Clean Energy County Seal program awards counties a gold, silver, or bronze seal for their engagement with the clean energy industry, their educational programs, and/or their manufacturers.
Two counties received a Gold Seal for their contribution to Iowa's renewable energy excellence through wind or solar:
- Story County (wind)
- Hamilton County (wind)
"It is exciting to see the increased investments in wind and solar around the state. These are vital pieces of any community's renewable energy portfolio," said Story County Board of Supervisors Chair Latifah Faisal. "Story County is fortunate to have a team of elected officials and staff, both past and present, who embrace the benefits and future of clean energy."
The following counties were awarded silver and bronze seals for their contributions to wind or solar:
- Ida County (wind)
- Hamilton County (solar)
- Story County (solar)
"Hamilton County is fortunate to be the home of diverse renewable energy solutions that include ethanol, methane capturing, and wind turbine technology," said Hamilton County Board of Supervisors Chairman Rick Young.
Iowa has become a national leader in renewable energy and ranks number one in the nation for clean energy as a total share of electricity. Iowa also is near the top for installed renewable capacity, jobs supported, and lease payments to farmers.
"The revenue from wind turbines has allowed us to greatly improve our roads and bridges, as well as update our courthouse accessibility entrance," said Ida County Board of Supervisor Chairman Raymond Drey.
As renewable energy continues to grow across the state and provide Iowans with good jobs and affordable, sustainable energy, our local Iowa communities stand as a shining example of the industry's continued success.
