A new educational webinar will be hosted on April 23 by the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Dairy Team, offering insights into managing dairy rations without relying on brown midrib (BMR) corn silage. The session will run from 12 to 1 p.m. and is open to dairy farmers, consultants, and industry professionals.
Dr. Adam Krull and Dr. Luiz Ferraretto will lead the discussion, focusing on practical strategies for developing dairy rations in the absence of BMR corn silage. Attendees will gain access to updated research, genetic corn alternatives, and ration-building techniques aimed at improving cow performance and farm efficiency.
Dr. Krull is a dairy veterinarian and nutrition expert currently with Pioneer, where he advises on best practices in forage production, storage, and feeding to boost herd health and productivity. His background includes veterinary and dairy science studies at Iowa State University, along with hands-on experience as a dairy practitioner and academic instructor.
Dr. Ferraretto, originally from Brazil, specializes in dairy nutrition with a strong focus on improving feed digestibility. His research covers areas such as starch and fiber use in dairy cows, silage quality, and the application of by-products in animal diets. He also works on developing better tools for feed analysis on farms and in laboratories.
Participants are encouraged to register at least one hour before the webinar begins by visiting: https://go.iastate.edu/RATIONBMR. Those unable to attend live can access a recorded version on the ISU Extension and Outreach Dairy Team’s webinars page.
