Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has opened the request system for its Conservation Station educational trailers for summer 2025. Community events, fairs, and farmers' markets can request a visit before March 31 through the Water Rocks! website.
The Conservation Station trailers offer hands-on exhibits focusing on conservation, water quality, and agricultural sustainability. These interactive displays attract thousands of visitors each season. According to Jacqueline Comito, director of Water Rocks! and Iowa Learning Farms, the trailers help make scientific research fun and accessible for all ages.
The summer 2025 season runs from June 2 to August 31, with visits available Monday through Saturday in June and July, and Monday through Friday in August. Each event can book a one-day visit, with the Conservation Station team engaging with visitors for a three to four-hour session.
The fleet includes four themed trailers, each highlighting different conservation topics. Conservation Station on the Edge features demonstrations on bioreactors and saturated buffers, while Conservation Station Marsh Madness explores wetlands and water movement using scale models.
Each visit is staffed by Iowa State University faculty, staff, and student interns, who provide in-depth information on natural resources and conservation efforts. Thanks to sponsors, participation is free for event organizers and visitors.
Community organizers and fair boards interested in hosting a Conservation Station should submit their requests before March 31. All requests will be reviewed, and applicants will be notified about their status by April 18.
