Iowans affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding from June 16 to July 23, 2024, have until October 22, 2024, to apply for FEMA disaster assistance. The assistance can help cover temporary housing, home repairs, and other disaster-related needs.
Residents living in the affected counties, including Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Humboldt, Lyon, Monona, O'Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pottawattamie, Scott, Sioux, and Woodbury, are eligible to apply.
Those who had flood-related damage or storm expenses, as well as self-employed individuals, can benefit from FEMA's grants. In addition to FEMA’s support, the U.S. Small Business Administration is offering loans for home repairs and business impacts.
To apply for FEMA assistance, residents have several options:
Visit the website: DisasterAssistance.gov
Call FEMA directly at 800-621-FEMA (3362)
Download and use the FEMA app.
FEMA assistance is available to everyone regardless of race, color, religion, nationality, sex, age, disability, or economic status. Anyone experiencing discrimination can contact FEMA toll-free at 833-285-7448. Spanish-speaking applicants can press 2 for assistance, and those using relay services should provide their specific relay number to FEMA when applying.
With the application deadline fast approaching, Iowans are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure they receive the help they need for disaster recovery.
