On June 10, 2025, Starmont High School in Arlington, Iowa, hosted the Iowa 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Contest, where 34 youth from Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, and Winneshiek counties came together to showcase their knowledge of the dairy industry.
The event tested participants in areas such as nutrition, anatomy, herd health, and dairy management practices.
The competition included junior, intermediate, and senior divisions. Before the main rounds, all participants took a written exam, which was used for team placement and contributed to final scores.
The top performers demonstrated a strong understanding of key dairy concepts and earned recognition both individually and as teams.
Delaware County dominated across all three divisions. In the senior division, the team of Tyler Hoeger, Ford Domeyer, Madalynn Arnold, and Braden Ronnebaum earned the grand champion title.
Fayette County's team of Lily Holthaus, Kelsey Timp, and Jayden Timp placed second, earning the reserve champion title. Senior division winners may represent Iowa at the National 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl in Louisville, Kentucky this November.
In the intermediate division, Delaware County’s Team KLM, including Karl Zumbach, Logan Voekler, and Morgan Hoeger, claimed the grand champion spot. Dubuque County’s team—Adley Rae, Carson Rauen, and Ellie Simon—earned the reserve title.
Delaware County continued its success in the junior division, with team members Anna Zumbach, Katie Voekler, Kaitlynn Arnold, and Will Zumbach taking the grand champion title. A mixed team from Winneshiek and Delaware counties earned reserve.
Top individual scorers included:
- Junior: (tie) Anna and Will Zumbach
- Intermediate: Adley Rae
- Senior: Tyler Hoeger
The contest was made possible by volunteers, coaches, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the Dairy Team, and the Iowa 4-H Foundation, all supporting youth learning and leadership in agriculture.
