A new farmer-led conservation initiative is taking root in Northwest Iowa. The Northwest Iowa Agriculture Stewardship Alliance (NIASA) invites farmers and landowners in Palo Alto, Emmet, Clay, and Dickinson counties to join a supportive peer learning network aimed at promoting soil health, water quality, and farm profitability.
NIASA is supported by The Nature Conservancy in Iowa and led by local farmers, agronomists, and conservation professionals. The group will focus on sharing practical knowledge about regenerative agriculture techniques such as cover crops, strip-tillage, prairie strips, and nutrient management.
To kick off the network, NIASA is hosting a Summer Field Day on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 4375 230th Street, Wallingford, IA. The free event will include a complimentary dinner for farmers and landowners.
Event Schedule:
- 5:00–5:30 p.m. – Dinner
- 5:30–6:15 p.m. – Presentations on conservation practices and cost-share programs
- 6:15–7:00 p.m. – Farmer panel discussion
“This is a great opportunity for farmers to learn from each other and explore practical ways to improve their land and bottom line,” said Malu Menon, Agriculture Project Manager and Conservation Agronomist at The Nature Conservancy in Iowa.
Interested participants are encouraged to RSVP by June 21 to help with planning, though walk-ins are welcome.
