Iowa has launched a new grant program to enhance meat processing in the state. The Choose Iowa Butchery Innovation Grant, announced by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, is designed to support small meat processors and custom lockers. This initiative aims to strengthen the local meat industry by increasing processing capacity.
The grant operates as a cost-share program, encouraging eligible businesses to apply for financial support. The funding will help small-scale processors expand their facilities, improve equipment, and enhance overall efficiency. By boosting local processing capabilities, the program seeks to strengthen Iowa’s agricultural economy and provide more opportunities for farmers and meat producers.
This initiative is part of Choose Iowa, a branding program that promotes agricultural products grown, raised, and produced within the state. Administered by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, the grant supports the broader goal of increasing local food production and availability.
With this program, Iowa aims to support its agricultural businesses, enhance food supply chains, and promote locally processed meat products. Small processors interested in upgrading their operations are encouraged to apply for funding through the initiative.
