A new season of the popular “Money Smart” financial education series will begin on March 24, offering Iowans the chance to build strong money management skills at no cost. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host “Money Smart: Prioritizing Bills, Credit and Debt,” a three‑part virtual program designed to help individuals take control of their financial wellbeing.
The series is scheduled for Tuesdays on March 24, March 31 and April 7. Each session will be held twice—once from noon to 1 p.m. and again from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.—allowing participants to choose the time that works best for them. Registration is available online and must be completed by March 13.
Barb Wollan, a health and human sciences educator, emphasized the program’s value for anyone seeking greater confidence with money. “This virtual series provides tools to help manage money effectively, make better financial decisions and live according to your priorities,” she said. “If you’re ready to start fresh and feel confident about your money decisions, this program is designed for you.”
Throughout the three sessions, participants will learn practical strategies to improve their financial stability. The workshop covers essential topics including how to build an emergency spending plan, how to prioritize bills based on consequences, how to strengthen personal credit, and how to manage debt even during difficult financial times. These lessons are based on trusted, research‑supported financial education materials.
Each one‑hour session will focus on a specific theme—prioritizing bills, protecting credit, and managing debt. The program is delivered online through Zoom, with ISU Extension and Outreach educators leading the lessons and guiding discussions.
Participants may choose either the noon series or the evening series, as both schedules offer identical content. After registering, individuals will receive a confirmation email containing the Zoom link and additional instructions.
The program is free for all participants, continuing ISU Extension and Outreach’s commitment to providing accessible educational opportunities across the state. For additional questions, interested individuals may contact Barb Wollan at 515‑832‑9597 or bwollan@iastate.edu.
