ISU 2026 Garden Calendar Highlights Bulbs

ISU 2026 Garden Calendar Highlights Bulbs

By Andi Anderson

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has released its 2026 Garden Calendar, “A Bounty of Bulbs,” a colorful guide designed to inspire gardeners throughout the year.

Highlighting the beauty of bulbs—from spring tulips and summer lilies to autumn crocuses and winter amaryllis—the calendar provides practical resources and seasonal advice for every stage of gardening.

Aaron Steil, consumer horticulture extension specialist and author of the 2026 calendar, said his admiration for bulbs inspired this year’s theme. “I love how bulbs appear and disappear in the landscape.

After noting that we have never done a bulb-focused garden calendar, it seemed natural to feature their bright, colorful blooms for 2026,” he explained.

Now in its 48th year, the calendar is a collaborative effort between ISU Extension horticulturists and the Agriculture and Natural Resources communications team.

Each month includes extension resources, expert tips for growing bulbs indoors and outdoors, and 12 vivid photographs showcasing their beauty in every season.

Beyond its striking visuals, the calendar serves as a functional gardening journal. “Recording things that happen in your garden is a great way to learn and connect more with your garden and with nature,” Steil noted. “For the 2026 calendar, we have provided even more space for you to take notes and record inspirations.”

The 2026 Garden Calendar is available for purchase through the ISU Extension Store, and Iowa residents can also check with their county extension office for local availability.

Whether as a thoughtful gift or a personal gardening companion, “A Bounty of Bulbs” offers inspiration and guidance for gardeners looking to add vibrant color to their landscapes year-round.
