Iowa State University’s Northern Research and Demonstration Farm, in partnership with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the North Central Iowa Research Association, will host the annual Fall Field Day on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
The event will take place at the Northern Research Farm, located at 310 S Main Street, Kanawha.
This field day offers a unique opportunity for farmers to engage with experts and learn about the latest research affecting crops this growing season.
Gentry Sorenson, extension field agronomist at Iowa State, emphasized that attendees will gain valuable insights and have the chance to ask questions about ongoing research at the farm.
The event will begin at 9 a.m., following registration and refreshments at 8:30 a.m. Matt Schnabel, farm superintendent, and Greg Guenther, president of the North Central Iowa Research Association, will open the day with welcoming remarks. Field tours will feature prominent speakers and presentations on the following topics:
- Alison Robertson and Daren Muller (Iowa State University professors and plant pathologists) will address corn and soybean diseases and how precipitation impacts disease pressure in 2025.
- Richard Roth (Assistant Professor and Nitrogen Science Specialist) will review recent nitrogen and sulfur trials and other nitrogen-related topics.
- Wes Everman (Assistant Professor and Extension Weed Science Specialist) will discuss herbicide options and weed control strategies for the 2025 growing season.
The event is open to the public, and there is no cost to attend. A complimentary lunch will be provided for all attendees.
Pre-registration is encouraged by September 2 to ensure adequate planning. Interested participants can register by emailing northernrf@iastate.edu or calling Matt Schnabel at 641-762-3247.
