Iowa State University is set to conduct its 2024 Crop Advantage meetings, offering a vital platform for producers to gain research-based crop production information. These meetings, spread across 12 Iowa locations from Jan. 3-30, are an initiative by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to present updated management options and recommendations addressing key crop production challenges in Iowa.
These sessions are not only informative but also serve as an opportunity for attendees to earn continuing education credits for Certified Crop Advisers and for pesticide applicator recertification. Private pesticide applicators can obtain additional instruction for a fee.
Josh Michel, a field agronomist with ISU Extension and Outreach, emphasizes the importance of these in-person educational sessions, which have consistently delivered high-quality information to farmers across Iowa.
In 2023, the Crop Advantage meetings saw over 1,500 attendees from all 99 Iowa counties and neighboring states, with a significant majority acknowledging the potential of these insights to save between $5 and $20 per acre.
The program content is tailored to address local agricultural needs and production issues. The 2024 agenda covers a wide range of topics including crop market outlooks, nutrient management, disease management in corn and soybeans, weed management, and emerging concerns like soybean gall midge.
For those interested in attending, early registration is available at $75, while late registration costs $100. The registration fee includes lunch, refreshment breaks, and CCA credits.
