Iowa State University's Gamma Sigma Delta chapter recently welcomed 39 new members, showcasing their dedication to agricultural science and education. The annual award ceremony, held on April 16, 2024, at Curtiss Hall’s Dolezal Auditorium, honored not only the new initiates but also recognized outstanding students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Among the highlights of the ceremony were the presentation of Mission Awards to faculty and staff who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, extension, and international agriculture. Recipients included Karl Kerns, Barbara Clawson, Steven Lonergan, and Adam Thoms, each recognized for their contributions to their respective fields.
Patrick McGonegle received the Alumni Award of Merit in recognition of his achievements since earning his bachelor's degree in animal science from Iowa State in 1983. Dan Loy, University Professor Emeritus of Animal Science, was honored with the Distinguished Achievement in Agriculture Award for his significant contributions to the field throughout his career.
Additionally, two scholarships were awarded to Iowa State students based on their academic achievements. Calvin Moioffer and Alexia Corwin were recognized for their outstanding performance in their sophomore and senior classes, respectively.
The new initiates into Gamma Sigma Delta encompassed a diverse group, including faculty, staff, graduate and veterinary medicine students, as well as junior and senior undergraduate students. Their induction into the honorary society signifies their commitment to excellence in agricultural pursuits and scholarship.
Gamma Sigma Delta serves as a beacon of excellence in the field of agriculture, promoting high standards of scholarship and recognizing outstanding contributions to agricultural science and education. Through initiatives like these, Iowa State University continues to foster a community dedicated to advancing the knowledge and practice of agriculture.
