Farmers and agricultural professionals are invited to attend a summer field day organized by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The event will take place on June 16 at the Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm in Iowa. It is designed to provide useful, field-based learning opportunities for the current farming season.
The program will begin with check-in at 1:00 p.m., followed by sessions starting at 1:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and free of charge, making it accessible to farmers, landowners, and agricultural retailers interested in improving their knowledge and farm practices.
The field day will include several stops where experts will discuss important agricultural topics. These sessions will cover research updates, pest management using artificial intelligence, strategies for adopting cover crops, and nitrogen management in corn production.
Specialists from Iowa State University will lead these sessions. Topics include the role of AI in controlling pests, improving crop systems with cover crops, and evaluating whether crops have enough nitrogen for healthy growth. These discussions aim to give farmers practical information they can directly apply to their fields.
“This field day highlights timely topics for the growing season while also introducing emerging tools like AI in agriculture,” said Rebecca Vittetoe, field agronomist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “It’s a valuable opportunity for farmers, landowners and ag retailers to connect with specialists, see research in action and gain practical insights they can apply this season.”
Participants will also have the opportunity to earn Certified Crop Adviser credits. These include 1.0 credit in crop management, 0.5 in pest management, and 0.5 in nutrient management, which can support professional development.
The research farm is located near Crawfordsville, and directions will be clearly marked to help visitors reach the site easily. Organizers encourage interested participants to attend and take advantage of this learning opportunity.
Events like this help farmers stay updated on modern farming practices and technology. By attending, they can gain valuable knowledge, connect with experts, and improve their decision-making to achieve better crop results and sustainable farming practices.
