Iowa State Leads Crop Learning Field Day

Iowa State Leads Crop Learning Field Day

By Andi Anderson

The Summer Field Day at the Armstrong Research and Demonstration Farm is scheduled for June 25, offering farmers and agronomists an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in crop production. Organized by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the event focuses on improving knowledge related to herbicides, fungicides, and overall crop management practices.

This educational program is designed to provide timely and practical information that farmers can apply directly in their fields. Experts from Iowa State University and the agriculture industry will share research findings and real-world solutions for common challenges faced during the growing season.

Key topics at the field day include the effects of sulfur on corn and soybean crops, updates on fungicide effectiveness, and demonstrations of herbicide use in soybean farming. Participants will also learn about adopting cover crops using a systems approach and best practices for effective herbicide management.

The event will feature knowledgeable speakers such as Richard Roth, Alison Robertson, Wesley Everman, and Mark Licht, along with industry professionals from BASF. These experts will provide valuable insights into improving crop yield and managing pests and diseases.

"The field day will cover timely information on foliar fungicides and an early outlook on potential disease pressure this growing season, while also addressing bigger-picture topics like herbicide challenges, which are becoming more frequent,” said Aaron Saeugling, extension field agronomist at Iowa State. “Our goal is to provide practical, research-based information that attendees can take back and apply in their own fields.”

The program will take place at the Armstrong Research and Demonstration Farm in Lewis, with registration starting at 9:30 a.m. and sessions running from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided, and Certified Crop Advisors can earn credits in crop, pest, and nutrient management.

The event is open to the public at no cost, supported by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, ISU Research Farms, and the Wallace Foundation. Pre-registration is encouraged to assist with planning.
