Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has introduced a new educational podcast called “County Roads.” This podcast is designed to help farmers better understand the business, financial, and legal aspects of running a farm. It is a useful resource for both new and experienced farmers.
The podcast is developed by the Beginning Farmer Center at Iowa State. Its first episode was released on May 5, and new episodes are published twice a month, on the first and third Tuesday.
This regular schedule allows farmers to stay updated with important information while managing their daily work.
“County Roads” focuses on real-life challenges faced by farmers. Each episode presents clear and simple discussions about important topics such as farm production, financial planning, land access, labor management, taxes, and farm succession.
These topics are explained in a practical way so that farmers can easily apply the information to their own operations.
The podcast is hosted by Kristiana Coutu, director of the Beginning Farmer Center, and Tim Christensen, a farm management specialist. Both hosts bring expert knowledge and real-world experience to each discussion. Their goal is to provide useful advice that farmers can understand and use without difficulty.
One of the main advantages of the podcast is its flexibility. Farmers can listen to episodes at their convenience without interrupting their work. This makes it easier for them to learn while continuing their daily farm activities.
The creators of the podcast have designed it to support farmers at all stages of their careers. Whether someone is just starting out or has many years of experience, the podcast provides valuable insights into managing a successful farm business.
Listeners can access “County Roads” on popular platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, and Audible. They can also visit the Beginning Farmer Center website for updates on new episodes.
Overall, the podcast serves as a practical learning tool, helping farmers improve their knowledge and make better decisions in farm management.
