Iowa Learning Farms is set to host the second installment of their "Conservation On Tap" series in partnership with the Des Moines Water Works and Conservation Learning Group. This gathering will take place on Thursday, August 31, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Kinship Brewing Co. in Waukee.
The event provides an opportunity for local farmers, landowners, and urban residents to come together and engage in discussions about conservation practices and water quality. Unlike traditional formal presentations, the event aims to foster an atmosphere of open dialogue, allowing attendees to ask questions, share insights, and learn from one another. Following the discussions, there will be a networking session to further connect participants.
To ensure a comfortable experience for everyone, interested individuals are encouraged to RSVP by August 28. This can be done by calling 515-294-5429 or sending an email to ilf@iastate.edu.
Liz Ripley, Iowa Learning Farms conservation and cover crop outreach specialist, highlighted the community-building aspect of the event. Ripley stated, "Our intent with this event is to help build community through encouraging farmers, landowners, and urban residents to talk about topics important within the community... We are looking forward to learning alongside everyone else who attends."
The hosts for the event include Ted Corrigan, CEO and general manager of the Des Moines Water Works, Mark Licht, associate professor and extension cropping systems specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, and Matt Helmers, Iowa Nutrient Research Center director. Staff from Kinship Brewing Co. will also join in the conversations, shedding light on why water quality matters for brewing.
Ted Corrigan expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity for engagement, saying, "We need interested landowners and citizens involved in not only discussing these challenges, but being part of the solution for improved water quality."
Save the date for the final "Conservation On Tap" event in the area: Thursday, Oct. 19, 6-7 p.m. at Big Grove Brewery, Des Moines.
